Australian writer Lara Russell, née van den Berg, was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. She grew up as an only child in a large extended family, and lived in the southern part of Johannesburg where her father taught literature in English as well as Afrikaans, a native South African language, and her mother worked as a Science Teacher at a local school.
Lara attended the University of Johannesburg and majored in Computer Science and Mathematics. After finishing her studies, she immigrated to Australia in 2003.
She works in the field of Information Technology as one of the few I.T business analysts who enjoys writing papers and technical documentation. It is not surprising that an interest in languages and fiction fills her spare time.
For the past seventeen years, Lara and her husband Simon have travelled as much as possible, locally and abroad. They currently live in Adelaide, South Australia.
